“Another massive thanks to Chris and his team and of course Colin my team mate! This is the beginning of what I truly hope will become an enduring event, but one that will remain an exclusive tour that will attract the types of riders who honestly do ride for the fun of it, but who at the same time know how to merge competitiveness and exploration. An event that will “ride” a fine line between extreme and manageable, aimed at those MTBer’s who know what it is to hike- a- bike and somehow find enjoyment at the end of the day, reminiscing about the days toil over a beer in the evenings.”

“ Why would I go back to the Lesotho Sky race…it is at high altitude (I am from Knysna), lots of climbs, rural Lesotho, far to travel for me and there are many races going on at the same time? Why would I tell all my friends and encourage them to go?

Because….., it is a fantastic race, a soul enhancing experience, true beauty with a difference that no other race have given me. To be welcomed by the Lesotho people are a humbling experience and I went away with a treasure of new friends.

The organization, the accommodation and the food were fantastic! Thanks to Christian, Darol and the rest of the crew for putting on such an unique race.

“The 2011 Lesotho Sky was truly a remarkable experience. I have done many stage races, including the Cape Epic, and did not really know what to expect when the highly decorated veteran athlete and former Cape Epic winner Hannele Steyn-Kotze invited me to join her to team up in the mixed team category for the inaugural Lesotho Sky event. With the thumbs up from our sponsor, TALISMAN Hire, the race was on. Chris, Darol and the Lesotho Sky team pulled out all the stops to make the event as enjoyable as possible in a neighbouring country where luxuries are not in abundance. However, the Lesotho people were extremely friendly and accommodating.

The scenery, cycling routes and terrain were unbelievable and with the Lesotho Sky team always ready to please and care for the riders, the event culminated into an unforgettable stage race experience for me. Afternoons and evenings were spend at very cosy, friendly and comfortable venues with great meals all round. Not for the fainthearted, but a very manageable race for the experienced mountain biker looking for a new challenge. Tapping on the experience of my team mate and pacing myself on day 1, I easily managed to overcome the altitude challenge, which turned out to be ideal early preparation for the races I am planning for 2012 including the Transalps. May the event grow from strength to strength.”

Colin du Plessis, 50 from Knysna in the Garden Route

”I rode the first event last year and what a wonderful experience,  do not be fooled by the mildness of the data, these are some of the most challenging, scenic and remote places you will probably ride in, so the stage distances do not have to be giant.   This is a truly FEEL GOOD mountain biking event…

The features of this ride are miles and miles of footpaths, cattle tracks,’’ helter skelter’’ decents down super smooth sleigh tracks, old wagon roads, river crossings, gravel tracks and tons of smiling local folks.  Some of these smiling faces also ride mountain bikes, and boy, can they ride!!

The local farmers cannot afford vehicles nor fences, so everywhere you ride there are various open tracks to take you from A to B.  Many of these tracks are used by the ROOF OF AFRICA and we share some of these routes and overnight stops that that event is famed for.

Accommodation is in lodges and in camps run by locals, mostly with well stocked bars to refresh you as you re-live the days highlights and chomp down the good food.

Organiser’s, Chris and Darol have scouted the area and put together a challenging but do-able route,  with easy logistics .

Race it or ride it, is an experience you will never forget………………

Come mountain bike with us in the Mountain Kingdom this September , you will feel right at home..”
